On Monday we reported who and where head coach Brian Gregory and his assistants were expected to visit. LINK However, Wednesday evening we learned that the Bulls visited a new name in the 2020 class. USF assistant Tom Herrion traveled to Putnam Science (CT) Academy, where he found Alexis Yetna, to watch French import Melvyn Ebonkoli.

Putnam Science Academy assistant coach Josh Scraba listed Ebonkoli’s height at 6-foot-8 and described him as a power forward who will play for the Putnam Science Academy post grad team.

“Strong, tough, defends, rebounds,” is how Scraba described Ebonkoli to RunningTheBulls.com via text message. “Been out for four months with injury. First week healthy happened to be his first week here in America last week and he just keeps looking better and better. Definitely a high major player. Unreal kid off the court also.”

Great move by USF to go see Ebonkoli the first week they were allowed to. Head coaches from Indiana, Maryland-Baltimore County, plus assistants from Binghamton, West Virginia, Dayton and Towson were also at Putnam Science Academy on Wednesday.

We have heard that coach Herrion liked what he saw in Ebonkoli so, pending a review of Ebonkoli’s French school transcripts, an offer from USF could be forthcoming.

With just one scholarship available the Bulls are looking for a power forward to fill that spot. Obinna Anochili-Killen visited Tampa last weekend and was scheduled to begin a visit to Virginia Commonwealth this weekend, however that visit was canceled because VCU got a silent verbal and is now out of scholarships

The only other target with an official visit scheduled to USF is Josh Ogundele. He is expected to begin his visit on October 4.

Although this video was published six months ago, it features games that Ebonkoli played in the summer of 2018. The video also lists his height at 199 cm which is a hair shy of 6-foot-6. The FIBA website listed Ebonkoli's height at 197 cm. However, the kid could have grown a few inches since the summer of 2018 to get to the height the Putnam Science Academy coach listed.
