FOOTBALL RECRUITING Recruiting In Miami Dade...What HS Coaches Are Saying

From Dave Dunn, Columbus

Dunn: USF didn’t come through very strong before, but (defensive coordinator) Todd Orlando has been through a lot now. They picked up full force. (Head coach Alex Golesh) and several assistants came through in the spring. It was a noticeable change.

The entire article...

FOOTBALL So Who Are The Starters...

For the first time in probably over a decade we have a coach that is a great communicator with his players and the team's fans, but who are the starters going to be? According to CAG USF is better at the QB, RB, WR, and the TE position that he thought we would be. Credit to a lot of people there.

One player though on the defensive side I believe is going to be a starter is former "the other team up the street" and Missouri ILB Jamie Pettway. He's an ink in candidate for me.

FOOTBALL Alex Golesh's Trip To Lakewood HS...Recruiting Pinellas County

Nice article about how the program is growing and CAG's relationship to the current coach at Lakewood HS and his previous recruiting there.

Historical booster/donor contributions 2005-2022

I figured it would be bad but I didn’t expect to see us sandwiched between Arkansas State and Toledo/UTEP.

Unfortunately, probably a symptom of apathy (when left for dead when the BE blew up) and complacency (when first in the BE) as well as overall lackadaisical fundraising abilities by previous administrations.

Some notables:

Memphis $170M
Boise $140M
ECU $134M
SDSU $132M
UConn $134M
UCF $128M
Cincy $115M
Charlotte $78M
UAB $69M
USF $63M

State of college football

Kelly mentioning SMUs glory days prior to their death penalty made me remember how much the sport has truly changed in the past 40 years and how we have no clue what it will look like in 20 years. Can you imagine back in the earlier 80s that Notre Dame who at that time was probably even more popular than they are now relatively in college football hired a HIGH SCHOOL Coach Gerry Faust as their head coach. 15 years later Ohio State is hiring Youngstown State coach Jim Tressel as their head coach. You imagine anything even close to those hires today and the fan bases would have an aneurysm!

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Bulls Scoop 7/27

Top S Fred Gaskin (Vanguard- Ocala, FL) will be on campus this weekend and there is some buzz that he might go ahead and pull the trigger on a USF commitment. Some schools have backed off a little due to some top end speed concerns with Gaskin, but he can flat-out play ball.

WR Zy'marion Lang (Palmetto, FL) was back on campus yesterday and our sources indicate that K-State is now out of the mix. I guess he didn't love little Manhattan as much as others do. That leaves USF, Pitt and South Carolina. Some sources think South Carolina and some think Pitt, but ironically my sources at each of those two schools (SC/Pitt) both think SC. My USF sources think if they land Lang it will be later in the cycle and not on his July 30th commitment date.

OL Tyreek Major (Gaither- Tampa, FL) is on commitment watch after his decommitment from FAU. It took him way longer than I expected for him to recommit. I also have OL Frederick Hinton (Port St. Lucie, FL) on commit watch as well.

USF made the top 10 for DE target Elias Williams (Hudson, FL) who has been on campus multiple times.

I found out what is going on with ATH Gregory Smith III (Sumner- Riverview, FL). Basically, he has been a guy several schools including USF are keeping warm. No one I talked to thinks they will take him.

The one spot going a little slow at the moment is the CB position. They have Hasaan Sykes (Tucker, GA) committed, but they are seeking two more CBs. I would not be shocked to see this as a heavy evaluation position this fall and some new names/offers to emerge. It is a thin CB class overall and several other programs are doing the same thing and reevaluating their boards right now at that position.

USF will have a big recruiting event this weekend and we will have coverage and names later in the week.

USF also had two big 2025 targets on campus today
