FOOTBALL Coaching Search update 12/1

This has been quite the shitshow from our perspective in dealing with stuff because of the Deion Sanders piece.

I've been told that Deion has not taken a job but the heat around him going to USF has cooled off. His people were telling everyone that was his favorite of the two open jobs seriously considering him, USF and Colorado. I do not believe Cincinnati is interested in Prime. Everyone involved with dealing with Prime from these schools all feel like he is playing them for his own agenda. My FSU source who is tight with Prime's people thought USF might be out of the mix and he may even opt to stay at Jackson State yesterday. I'd say it is fluid.

So that leads me back to Jamey Chadwell, the bridesmaid in coaching searches for the last year. Chadwell has interest from USF, Liberty and a little from Cincinnati apparently as well. He will make his decision on what he is doing after Coastal Carolina's game at Troy on Saturday afternoon. I could see Chadwell taking the USF job over Liberty easily. I think he aligns with what Michael Kelly would like. Chadwell wants to bring his staff with him unless someone is retained as the head coach at Coastal so that has slowed down some of his options like GT. That isn't an issue for USF.

I do not believe USF has a signed deal in place with the next coach right now per what I've heard. I believe however it will happen quickly with both Sanders and Chadwell making whatever decisions they are on Saturday. From talking to high-level sources at USF earlier in the week, there was no deal in place despite some of the "media" reports. If you look at who is saying what, the TV and Radio people are pushing X, Y and Z is happening and the actual writers and even people around the program are immediately countering them because they actually bothered to check with sources at USF rather than trying to be first.

We've been told there is nothing to announce yet.

If it was going to be Larry Scott, Tom Herman or someone else not coaching this weekend like Willie Simmons they deal would've been announced already. The current staff has not been told anything either and they are working still as interim staff until the hire is made and that coach makes decisions.

FOOTBALL Too Early Possibilities for the USF job

Here are my top guys right now just off the top of my head.

-Deion Sanders (Jackson St) you make him say no and he will move the needle and is exactly what USF needs a real Willie Taggart who is a smarter person and a better coach.

-Alex Golesh (Tenn OC) part of the brain trust of a prolific Vols offense, calls plays unlike Scott did and is viewed as a sharp mind and future HC. Knows the recruiting ground from UCF

-DJ Durkin (TAMU DC) one of the better defensive minds in CFB, got a bit of a raw deal at Maryland, but would kill it with recruiting in the area and would have tougher teams.

-Tom Allen (Indiana HC) he is doing the Lord’s work at an impossible job at IU there and he was the last person to have a half decent defense at USF. He would kill it recruiting.

-Jamey Chadwell (Coastal Carolina) great coach, keeps getting bypassed for bigger jobs maybe he needs to roll the dice somewhere new. He can coach.

-Matt Rhule (unemployed) Rhule did a great job at Temple and can seriously coach and is a great fit in college.

-Bill O’Brien (Bama OC) he wants to get back into running his own program. He did a great job at Penn St and has done well at Bama as well. He has been waiting for a bigger job but that hasn’t materialized yet.

-Tyson Helton (WKU) guy can coach flat out and is a great

Guys I wouldn’t hire but MK might like

Phil Longo UNC OC, he puts up numbers but isn’t a HC imo.

Larry Scott (Howard) folks will throw his name around but the risk/reward is too high IMO to roll that dice right now.

FOOTBALL Coaching Search Update 11/26: Confirmed Targets

Per our sources we have confirmed a few more targets that USF has reached out to about the vacant coaching spot. Those names at current Jackson State coach Deion Sanders (we reported this earlier this week) and Colorado has reportedly offered him their job, but he has not accepted, former Houston and Texas HC Tom Herman who is currently unemployed but in the mix for several jobs and Coastal Carolina HC Jamey Chadwell who withdrew his name from consideration for the Georgia Tech job on Friday per my sources. We have confirmed contact and mutual interest from all three in USF.

There are a few more guys on what would be a short list, but we have not confirmed those names yet.

HOOPS RECRUITING Tyler Ringgold at Montverde Academy for a MTE

USF signee Tyler Ringgold and Legacy Early College are playing in the NIBC Series event at Montverde Academy Dec. 1 - Dec. 3.

I'm here right now and Ringgold has 6 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block and 2 turnovers at halftime. He's 2-of-5 from the field. His block was a chase down block that he pinned on the backboard. He's not a jet but Ringgold has some speed. He plays with a lot of confidence but under control. Hopefully he'll be in the mood to talk post game. Right now Legacy trails Long Island Lutheran 37-24.
