Huge weekend in AAC

Thursday

It all started last night when SMU went to Greenville and beat ECU in what was a defensive game until the 4th quarter. Both teams played tough defense but SMU's offense was better than ECU's.

Friday

Tonight is Ali vs Frazier when Tulane goes to Memphis. This game should be a slugfest between two top heavyweights. Henigan vs Platt will be fun to watch. These are arguably the best 2 teams in the West with SMU nipping at their heels.

Saturday

UAB travels to San Antonio to take on the Roadrunners. This game will be another barn burner. Both teams played tough out of conference schedules, so records are confusing.

FAU travels to Tampa to meet the Bulls. FAU is top rated defense efficiency and they have possibly the AAC's top RB in Larry McCammon. I'm holding my breath on this one. If the Bulls get the W they move from pretender to contender in the East.

The two Saturday games will go a long way towards separating the fly shit from the mustard seed. It looks like the strength of the AAC again lies in the West.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING Bull Scoop 7/16

I've put in a futurecast for USF to land OL Frederick Hinton (Port St. Lucie, FL) who is likely also transferring to IMG Academy. As far as I know that transfer hasn't been finalized. I know he plans to commit this month, just don't have a date yet. Also, keep an eye on FAU OL commit Tyreek Major (Gaither- Tampa, FL) who OV'd to USF before the dead period. I would not be surprised to see him flip.

The other outstanding futurecast I have right now is DE Ryan Jenkins (Westover- Albany, GA) and he will announce on Wednesday at 5pm.

CB target Carlos Mitchell (Lake Wales, FL) decommitted from UNC today. He OV'd to USF before the dead period and the Bulls are making a big push.

USF made the final four for 4-star WR Zy'marion Lang who is announcing on July 30th. K-State, Pitt and SC are the other four finalists. He has a few futurecasts to SC but I would not put much stock in that yet.

I still see USF trending for RB D'Marius Rucker from Lakeland HS. He dropped kind of a crazy top schools list that I think had some added P5 early offers that are school not actively recruiting him at the moment.

I still feel good about where USF stands with the twins OL Chenellson Exume and DL Dinellson Exume (Edison- Miami, FL). Both have spoken highly of their USF OV.

DT target Nate Gabriel (Auburndale, FL) will announce his college decision on 8/10 and has a final five of WV, K-State, USF, ECU and Illinois.

DT target Santana Williams has transferred to St. Frances Academy in Maryland from Missouri where he was in HS. That could help USF as Coach Bahler is well-connected in the DMV.

HOOPS RECRUITING USF offers 2026 Windermere Prep guard

...Brandon Bass Jr.

He also holds offers from Houston, Illinois, LSU, St. John's, Stanford, UCF and Wichita State.

Imo, Bass is currently one of the five best 2026 prospects in Florida and that a couple of Florida kids ranked ahead of him by Rivals will eventually be ranked below him.

He's a lefty guard who can really score it, knows how to play without the ball, a reliable shot maker, better than average athlete, father was SEC POY in 2005 and a 12-year NBA player.

I hope that...

I hope Coach Orlando is working hard with the defense in shedding blocks this week. As I watched the game Saturday, it seemed like on their explosive runs, we had guys near the runner, but everybody was engaged with a blocker. I did not see our guys disengaging to make the tackles. It was like they were all expecting the other guys to get off their blocks and make a play, instead of all of them fighting to get off their blocks and make the play. We simply have to do a better job at all three levels of shedding blocks and making tackles. Hopefully we will see improvement this week or it will stay ugly on that side of the ball.

FOOTBALL GAME THREAD: USF at UAB

A victory in Birmingham would mark the first three-game winning streak for USF since 2018 when the Bulls started 7-0, and the first three-game winning streak in AAC games since the 2017 season when USF won four straight and finished 6-2 in the conference.

Game time is 4 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Please keep all game chatter in this thread.

Btw, Jack is at a wedding today so we won't have post game content from him.

FOOTBALL BREAKING NEWS: Jeff Scott...

....tells the State he would "love" to coach at Clemson again. As if moving back to Clemson wasnt the ultimate run away with your tail between your legs move, now he wants to go back to the womb.

This guy will never get another FBS head coaching job again, not just due to his awful record here, but because he doesn't want to leave the womb.

Halfway there…

USF reached the halfway point of the season after stinging defeat at UAB last Saturday.
