So been working the phones today, there is interest from both Jeff Scott and Tony Elliott who are also being looked at as potential down the line hires by P5 schools meaning if they missed on multiple targets they'd hire them. I think the Lane Train has sailed, he is going to get a P5 gig this go-round.
New name surfaced today who is interested in the job. Steve Spurrier. Steve's son Steve Jr. was on staff here and he loves Tampa and is itching to still coach. He would want to help set up his son as a potential long-term replacement if things go well after a few years. I'm not sure if that is a no-go for Michael Kelly, but it would be interesting and he would probably draw better than anyone on the list. Spurrier is reaching out through back channels to gauge interest from the USF side.
Been told that Willie Taggart is a no-go despite how some people are pushing that including on TOS for personal reasons even after burying the guy on the FSU boards. Kelly knows all the FSU admins and he is wants someone who can RUN A PROGRAM not just coach and win some guys with some elite guys. Taggart struggles with all the tangibles required to run a program and he isn't the answer.
