HOOPS RECRUITING The Karter Knox official visit has begun

I just got off the phone with Kevin Knox Sr. and I could hear basketballs being dribbled in the background so I asked him where he was and he said that he was "in the arena with Karter and Kobe."

Karter Knox's official visit began today. He is currently in the Yuengling Center getting up shots with his brother Kobe.

The five-star wing was unable to make a planned unofficial visit to Sunday's game vs. Northern Iowa due to a photo shoot.

Knox said that his son still plans to visit Louisville next month and Kentucky in January. No visit meeting has been set up with G league Ignite yet.

OT: Brutal takedown of the Texas A&M Mike Elko hire…

Good thing Texas A&M applied to its safety school.

The Aggies didn't have the credentials to earn admission to Stanford or Cal-Berkeley, so it's off to Sacramento State, the commuter school that granted admission the moment it received the application.

That’s how I view the Aggies’ hiring Duke’s Mike Elko to replace the fired Jimbo Fisher.

All along, Elko profiled as the Aggies’ obvious fallback plan if the search didn’t produce a big fish.

Texas A&M paid a $77 million buyout to rectify its Fisher mistake and hire the guy who used to be Fisher’s wingman.”

FOOTBALL Brown Earns Sixth American Athletic Conference Honor

Quarterback is one of two players in the nation with 3,000+ passing and 700+ rushing yards on season;

No. 7 nationally in total offense, set USF season record for passing yards, on pace for passing touchdowns and completion percentage records

TAMPA, Nov. 27, 2023 – Following a five-touchdown performance in the Bulls’ bowl-eligibility clinching victory over Charlotte on Saturday, USF Football redshirt freshman quarterback Byrum Brown (Raleigh, N.C.) was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second time on the season to earn his sixth weekly recognition from the conference on the year.

Brown, who has placed himself among the elite signal callers in the nation, also earned Player of the Week honors in Week 4 and was named to the Conference Honor Roll in Weeks 2, 5, 10 and 11.

Saturday, Brown completed 73 percent of his passes (22-30) for 253 yards and four touchdowns while also running for 43 yards and a 35-yard touchdown as he posted 296 total yards in a 48-14 rout of the 49ers that improved USF to 6-6 (4-4 AAC) on the year and bowl eligible for the first time since 2018.

Brown became the Bulls’ first 3,000-yard passer on the night, breaking the USF season passing mark of 2,911 yards set by Quinton Flowers (2017) and Matt Grothe (2008). He stands No. 7 in the nation and first in the AAC in total yards per game (320.6) and his 3,823 total yards are just 167 shy of just the second 4,000-yard season in program history. Brown joins LSU’s Jayden Daniels as the only players in the nation to have posted 3,000-plus passing yards and 700-plus rushing yards on the season and also ranks first in the AAC and No. 12 nationally in points responsible for (17.3 ppg).

BROWN’S SEASON MARKS

Passing Yards 3,078 NEW USF RECORD

Completion Percentage 64.1 On pace for NEW USF Record

Completions 257 2 shy of NEW USF season Record

Attempts 401 56 shy of NEW USF season Record

Touchdown Passes 23 3 shy of NEW USF season Record

Rushing Yards 745 10th in AAC/5th most by a USF QB

Total Yards 3,823 3rd all-time at USF/1st in AAC

Total Plays 590 TIED USF SEASON RECORD

Total TD Responsible 34 4th all-time at USF/1st in AAC

The Bulls (6-6; 4-4 AAC) will await their bowl destination, which will be officially announced on Dec. 3.

Brown and Atkins Record Watch

As you might imagine, BB and Sean Atkins are making an assault on the record book. BB could set every major single season passing record this year.

Single season total yards- BB is currently 10th at 2,895. Record is QF with 4,342. At current pace, QF's record is safe.

Single season passing yards- BB is currently 11th. Record is QF and Grothe both at 2,911

Single season completion %: BB is currently 2nd, and is only 0.3 away from the best (Grothe-2006).

Single season TD passes: BB currently tied for 7th with Barnhardt. Record is 25 by QF.

Single season completions: BB is 9th with 194. Record is Blackwell with 258. (MB attempted 456 passes that year!)

Single season TD responsibility: BB is 5th with 25. Record is QF with 42.

Single season receptions: Atkins is 3rd with 60. Record is 67 by Rodney Adams.

Single season receiving yards: Atkins is just out of the top 10 at 639 right now, but #1 is MVS at 879.

FOOTBALL USF Bowl Wish List

Hello USF friends, this year we actually have a great chance to go Bowling! Feels weird just typing it out.

I have created this thread as there are quite a few predictions floating around. Curious to hear where/against whom you would prefer for our Bulls to land at.

Some sites predict us to be in the Fenway Bowl against Boston College. Others like Mcmurphy virally predicting a War on I4 rematch against C. I would personally hate this selection & hope USF declines it. I have been forced to watch C games all year and can tell you we just aren't there yet, we are in a rebuild. I would rather the season not have the chance to end on a bad note by getting womped by C even though these games typically are always close.

We attended our last bowl game down in Ft Lauderdale/Miami against WKU i think it was & we have a fantastic time down south. I hope we get a destination thats fun to visit. I would NOT want to visit birmingham for a bowl there. But i could be swayed for Boston.

So, which bowls do you have your eye on? Who would you predict or like us to play?

FOOTBALL Seniors…

Making the assumption that these guys will be moving on after the season based on senior night:

- Braxton Clark
- Antonio Mata’afa
- Brendan Farrell
- Brian Norris
- Bryce Bernard
- Daquan Evans
- De’Juan Sease
- Donovan Jennings
- Dylan Ridolph
- Jason Vaughn
- Jayson Littlejohn
- Jonathan Ross
- Matthew Hill
- Michael Brown-Stephens
- Timarcus Simpson

So me being me took a look at the seniors that didn’t walk tonight. Here’s the list:

- GB (Should transfer again if Byrum stays)
- Gonella (No idea the plan for him besides ST)
- Joiner (Don’t know how he still has eligibility. Next year would be his 6th. I’d love him back though)
- Dukes (Same as Joiner. Not sure if either or would bounce for a better opportunity)
- Wright (Clearly the lead back in the room)
- Hickman (Love to have him back)
- Shuler (Similar to Hickman)

FOOTBALL USF's bowl scenarios (not bowl predictions)

Here are the bowl scenarios for USF... for 2023 - which is such a strange sentence to type. TL;DR at the bottom.

Scenario 1: USF wins and is in.

This is the best scenario. USF control's it's own bowl destiny. The AAC probably won't have enough teams to fill it's slots, so as long as USF gets to 6 wins USF will go to a bowl game.

Scenario 2: USF loses and needs (A LOT OF) help.

Okay, USF loses to Charlotte. Before the message board burns down, let's look at the help USF needs... and boy is it a lot:

First, 5-7 teams qualify for bowl games if there are not enough 6-6 teams.

In 2023, there are 41 bowls from the NY6 to the Myrtle Beach bowl. That means 82 teams get to go bowling. After this week there are 70 slots accounted for: 69 teams with 6 wins or more and the winner of the Army/Navy game. Two of those teams are James Madison and Jacksonville State - who are not technically bowl eligible. So there are either 12 or 14 slots still available.

Today, there are 23 others teams with 5 wins (not including USF). On the list, Army and Navy are the only ones who play each other, and Navy has one more game against SMU. In theory, all 24 teams could win their 6th game, meaning there would be 10-12 teams with 6 wins that don't go bowling. Now, it is just as unlikely that all 23 teams win as it would be for all 23 teams to lose. So it comes down to how many of the 23 teams win or lose.

Second, 5-7 teams are selected in order of APR.

USF was 69th overall in APR in 2021-2022 (the latest API available). While, most of the teams ahead of USF already have 6 wins, USF is tied for 16th place among the teams who are 5-6 (11 teams) or 4-7 (4 teams) this week. So for USF to make a bowl at 5-7, 15 other 5-7 teams would need to be selected or win their 6th game. (One of the 4-7 teams ahead of USF, Wake Forest, plays a 5-6 team, Syracuse. Cuse is behind USF, so the winner of that game would get in before a 5-7 USF team.)

"So what, so what, so what's the scenario?"

There are 68 or 70 slots accounted for (depending on JMU and Jax St), so let's go with 70 eligible teams for now, meaning there are 12 left to fill.

The winner of Wake Forest @ Syracuse will get selected ahead of USF. Syracuse is 5-6 but behind USF in APR and would be eligible with a win; Wake is 4-7 but is ahead of USF in APR. So we're at 11 slots left to fill.
  • 4-7 teams ahead of USF in APR that need to lose:
    • Michigan State (vs Penn St), Ball State (vs Miami OH), and Middle Tennessee (@ Sam Houston St)
That leaves 22 teams that could all get to 6-6.
  • 5-6 teams that are ahead of USF in APR (9 total):
    • Minnesota (vs Wisconsin), Rice (vs FAU), Miss St (vs Ole Miss), UCF (vs Houston), South Carolina (vs Clemson), California (@ UCLA), Florida (vs FSU), EMU (@ Buffalo), Nebraska (vs Iowa).
    • It doesn't really matter if these teams win or lose, as they would get a bowl game ahead of USF regardless of the result.
    • If they all win and get to 6-6 they take 9 of the 11 slots automatically. If they all lose, they would still get slots ahead of USF depending on the results of the following 14 games.
  • 5-6 teams that are behind USF in APR (13 total):
    • No Illinois (@ Kent St), ODU (vs Ga State), Marshall (vs Ark St), Louisiana (vs LA Monroe), Colo St (@ Hawaii), Utah St (@ New Mexico), Wazzu (@ Washington), CMU (vs Toledo), Va Tech (UVa), TCU (@ Oklahoma), BYU (@ Ok St), Illinois (vs Northwestern)
    • A 5-7 USF needs 12 out of 13 of these teams to lose (10 out 13 if JMU and Jax St don't get eligible).

TL;DR:
  1. USF wins and they are in
  2. USF loses and can still get in if 13 out of 14 specific 5-6 teams lose this week; these are teams behind USF in APR.
  3. IF JMU and Jax St don't get to go bowling, the number drops to 11 out of 14.
