NCAA Rules Yetna Must Sit Out Season
Freshman forward will continue to practice with team
TAMPA, DEC. 18, 2017– The NCAA has ruled that USF freshman forward Alexis Yetna (Paris, France) will be required to sit out the entire 2017-18 men’s basketball season.
The NCAA ruled that Yetna’s previous competition at a prep school during the second year following his high school graduation requires him to sit out the entirety of his freshman season and lose that season of eligibility under NCAA legislation. USF’s appeal of the initial NCAA ruling was denied. However, USF will continue to review the case and will pursue any opportunities for further appeal and reinstatement of a season of eligibility that may become available.
The 6-8, 220-pound Yetna is able to continue to practice with the team, as he has been since his arrival at USF, and will be eligible to begin competing for USF at the start of the 2018-19 season. He has been ruled to have three years of eligibility remaining.
