So not much news lately. A lot will still hang on what happens with other job openings. Also I think coach Strong is waiting until after the Bulls bowl game to make any announcements.
PROBABLE
Brian Jean-Mary- Linebackers/Recruiting Coordinator (from Texas and Louisville) he is from Apopka and is almost certainly going to be on the staff. What will be interesting to see is if Strong names Brian his DC or not.
Sterlin Gilbert- Offensive Coordinator (from Texas via Tulsa), the only issue would be if Notre Dame or Pitt tried to scoop him up.
Matt Mattox- OL (from Texas) he is tied to Gilbert
Shaun King- King is tight with both Taggart and Strong and if he wants to stay I believe that Strong will make a spot for him as a coach. King could end up in Oregon as well. Our Oregon site says that Taggart has reached out to Dameyune Craig to join him but Craig has coached WR or QBs in college so that doesn't mean King is out of the mix there.
T.J. Weist- for whatever reason there isn't a ton of juice on TJ going to Oregon. He has openly said he would like to stay and he can coach WRs or TEs or even RBs.
Vance Bedford- Failed as the DC at Texas and was dismissed during the season, but is a longtime friend and ally of Strong's dating back to Florida where he was a DB coach. I don't think he will be the DC, but I think he will be on staff if he wants to coach. My Texas source thinks Jean-Mary, Gilbert, Mattox and Bedford will all be on Strong's staff.
POSSIBLE
David Reaves- Coach Reaves could end up in Oregon, he could end up staying or he could end up with his former brother-in-law Lane Kiffin at FAU.
Eric Mathies- His group improved during the season and he didn't exactly have the greatest group to work with. Mathies is rumored to be in the mix for a spot back at WKU for Mike Sanford as well.
Charlie Williams- Strong's receivers coach at Texas could end up in Tampa. He has coached and recruited Florida in the past at Miami and has been a longtime NFL assistant as well, so he could have other opportunities.
Anthony Johnson- Former Texas running back, worked at Toledo then Texas, does he have interest in working in Florida and will depend on who is kept around as well.
PROBABLY NOT
Jeff Traylor- The longtime Texas HS coach spent two years as a special teams and tight ends coach for the Longhorns. It is unclear if he would really have interest in leaving Texas.
Clay Jennings- Was the defensive backs coach for Texas this past year, but has worked at Arkansas and TCU as well. He may not have a spot unless Strong divides the secondary duties.
Darren Hiller- If Mattox comes with Gilbert then there really isn't a spot for Hiller and I've heard that is what is going to happen.
Donte Pimpleton- coach Pimp may have an opportunity to join Taggart in Oregon, but he is not in the mix to remain at USF.
Alonzo Hampton- Another longtime Taggart guy, not likely to stick around. He may end up back coaching HS or at Oregon off the field.
John Jancek- Had perhaps the worst year of all the assistants for his position group. Veteran coach should land on his feet somewhere, but wasn't a great fit at USF in this group of coaches.
Clint Hurtt- While John Fox may not survive in Chicago, Hurtt has made a name for himself as a DL coach in the NFL. A longtime Strong assistant would make 2-3x what USF could pay making it even more unlikely. He also has some NCAA baggage.
Raymond Woodie- Coach Woodie has done a nice job as a recruiter and LB coach, but I think he will end up in Oregon in some type of role either on or off the field for Taggart. I have a weird feeling he ends up with Taggart for a friendly face on staff.
Support staff- David Kelly and Sharrod Everett are headed to Oregon. Not sure if Kelly will be on the field or not.
