This is a weird weekend for Bulls Insider. This was to be the weekend of the USF Elite Camp. A camp that we have attended for at least five consecutive years. The camp would have provided an opportunity to scout some of the class of 2023 prospects that USF has interest in.
Last September the Bulls offered Wellington H.S. guard Marvel Allen, Orlando Christian Prep forward Jayden Hastings, The Villages H.S. forward Sam Walters, Lake Highland Prep (Orlando) wing Sean Stewart and Riviera Prep wing Osmar Garcia and we were looking forward to watching those kids again over the weekend camp.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the camp is obviously not happening. Neither will USF’s Elite Camp that is held in August.
Other than maintaining relationships, watching game video of 2021 and 2022 prospects and extending several offers; it is a relatively quiet time for USF recruiting.
The wait now is to see if there's any sort of evaluation period in the late summer/fall.
Earlier this week, the NCAA proposed four evaluation periods – two non-scholastic and two scholastic – during multiple weekends in August and September. The first would be Aug. 15-16 (non-scholastic/AAU), followed by Aug. 22-23 (scholastic/high school), Sept. 5-7 (non-scholastic/AAU), and Sept. 19-20 (scholastic/high school).
Additionally, most of September would be a recruiting period where coaches could make in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts such as in-home visits, in-school visits and evaluations. Because of the proposed modified recruiting calendar, the proposal would allow a non-coaching staff member to be designated to participate in on-court activities with the current roster of players, including coaching and off-campus visits.
From a USF perspective, this likely means Director of Player Development Billy Hubly would be able to function as an assistant coach for a period of time.
The NCAA's logistical plans for the events - testing, social distancing, media availability, fans, etc. - remain to be seen, but there is at least an outline for coaches to watch players with their high school or AAU teams.
VIRTUAL IN HOME VISITS
The USF coaching staff is going to do virtual in-home visits, on Tuesday, with Lucas Taylor and his family and one with Robert McCray V and his family.
In May we profiled Taylor. If you missed that, or want a refresher, please CLICK HERE.

We first learned of USF recruiting McCray on May 20. At that time he messaged me that NC A&T, University of Florida, University of South Florida, Marshall, Winthrop, Wake Forest, Coastal Carolina and Murray State" were the schools that were the most consistent with him.
McCray has a relationship with the Wake Forest staff that goes back awhile because they were trying to recruit him to East Tennessee State when they were there. A reliable source believes that Wake Forest will ultimately be McCray’s choice.
We continue to work hard for you and this week was a busy one for basketball at Bulls Insider.
We provided coverage of the Brian Gregory and Jose Fernandez media availabilities, published articles on three prospects in the 2022 class who USF has offered – including USF legacy Emanuel Sharp – was the first outlet in Tampa to report that David Collins was withdrawing his name from the NBA Draft.
When we published this thread the guys at tos still haven’t reported on the Collins news, the media availabilities or interviewed/provided any original content about Trey Moss’ commitment.
We appreciate your business and strive to exceed your expectations.

McCray, was offered by USF on Tuesday, is more of a combo guard than a pure point guard like Trey Moss and the Bulls’ staff likes McCray’s ability to play multiple positions. Having said that I believed he would be a really tough pull for USF.
