Two sources familiar with Ebenezer “EB” Dowuona’s recruitment say the Bulls “are close” to landing a commitment soon from the 6-foot-10 center. One source went so far as to say that Dowuona, who starts an official visit to Pittsburgh on Friday, could possibly commit next week.

Dowuona and his guardian, Nana Baafi, took an official visit to USF last Wednesday thru Friday. Yesterday I asked Baafi if he was going on the Pitt visit with Dowuona and he said, "Unfortunately I won't be there."

That makes USF the only official visit that Baafi attended. Dowuona will be accompanied by his high school coach on his Pitt visit, as he has with all of his other official visits. The Pitt visit is Dowuona’s fifth of his five allowable official visits.

We continue to believe, as we reported Saturday night, that USF is in very good shape with Dowuona. We also continue to believe Dowuona will announce his school choice relatively soon after his Pitt visit ends.

Dowuona, and his high school coach, did indicate that he might take an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech. However, on Tuesday the Yellow Jackets got a commitment from 6-foot-8, 215 pound Jordan Meka and his game bears some similarities to Dowuona’s. Particularly where it comes to running the floor, rebounding, blocking or altering shots in the paint.

Is someone visiting USF this weekend?

We’ve learned from some sources up north that USF may have a big time class of 2021 prospect on campus on Saturday for an unofficial visit. This Saturday is a good day to visit USF. Just a guess but the visit will probably involve watching the team practice, going to the football game at Ray Jay, and maybe even going to the Tyler, The Creator concert in Yuengling Center.

Coaches visiting recruits

Coaches from Calvary Christian (Ft. Lauderdale) and Pine Crest (Ft. Lauderdale) School hit me up to say that a coach from USF is coming to their school to watch the team workout. Both schools have some talent in the 2022 class who hold offers from USF.

Calvary Christian has 6-foot-7, 210 pound Gregg Glenn III. Glenn is a four-star prospect ranked No. 36 in the sophomore class. He holds offers from Alabama, Florida, FSU, Iowa State and Oklahoma State. USF has not offered yet, but that could happen today.

Pine Crest has Amen and Ausar Thompson, a.k.a. the Thompson Twins (insert 80’s musical joke here), two guards from Alameda, California who relocated to South Florida a year ago. They are two high academic and skilled guards with Rivals150 talent. Amen is a slightly better shooter than Ausar, but Ausar is a capable shot maker with a very good feel for the game.

Also, USF is expected in the Broward Community College gym to see DeAndre Pinckney. The Bulls offered the 6-foot-8 forward in July. Pinckney is a small forward so he doesn’t fit the Bulls immediate needs. We think the staff is remaining engaged with Pinckney in case there is roster attrition.
