This has been quite the shitshow from our perspective in dealing with stuff because of the Deion Sanders piece.
I've been told that Deion has not taken a job but the heat around him going to USF has cooled off. His people were telling everyone that was his favorite of the two open jobs seriously considering him, USF and Colorado. I do not believe Cincinnati is interested in Prime. Everyone involved with dealing with Prime from these schools all feel like he is playing them for his own agenda. My FSU source who is tight with Prime's people thought USF might be out of the mix and he may even opt to stay at Jackson State yesterday. I'd say it is fluid.
So that leads me back to Jamey Chadwell, the bridesmaid in coaching searches for the last year. Chadwell has interest from USF, Liberty and a little from Cincinnati apparently as well. He will make his decision on what he is doing after Coastal Carolina's game at Troy on Saturday afternoon. I could see Chadwell taking the USF job over Liberty easily. I think he aligns with what Michael Kelly would like. Chadwell wants to bring his staff with him unless someone is retained as the head coach at Coastal so that has slowed down some of his options like GT. That isn't an issue for USF.
I do not believe USF has a signed deal in place with the next coach right now per what I've heard. I believe however it will happen quickly with both Sanders and Chadwell making whatever decisions they are on Saturday. From talking to high-level sources at USF earlier in the week, there was no deal in place despite some of the "media" reports. If you look at who is saying what, the TV and Radio people are pushing X, Y and Z is happening and the actual writers and even people around the program are immediately countering them because they actually bothered to check with sources at USF rather than trying to be first.
We've been told there is nothing to announce yet.
If it was going to be Larry Scott, Tom Herman or someone else not coaching this weekend like Willie Simmons they deal would've been announced already. The current staff has not been told anything either and they are working still as interim staff until the hire is made and that coach makes decisions.
