247 student-athletes post a 3.0 GPA or higher during spring
TAMPA, JUNE 14, 2017 – For the second straight year, the nearly 500 student-athletes comprising USF Athletics have posted a combined annual grade-point average above a 3.0.
Final accounting of the 2016-17 academic period showed a 3.034 overall GPA for USF student-athletes, just shy of the record 3.085 mark for the 2015-16 academic period. USF student-athletes had not previously ever eclipsed a 3.0 cumulative GPA for an academic period and have now done it in back-to-back years.
“This is a very significant achievement for our student-athletes as well as our great Academic Services staff and coaches,” USF Director of Athletics Mark Harlan said. “Being able to post better than a 3.0 GPA in consecutive years is indicative of our commitment to graduating student-athletes and providing for the best overall student-athlete experience at USF. I’m so proud of the commitment of our young men and women, and of our staff and coaches to excelling in the classroom.”
USF student-athletes have now posted a term GPA (fall or spring) over 3.0 in six of the last seven terms, dating to the 2014 spring term.
The Bulls’ recent academic success was led by 247 student-athletes that recorded a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the 2017 spring semester, a number that represents nearly 60 percent of student-athletes enrolled. The Bulls had 137 student-athletes post better than a 3.5 term GPA and 37 earn a 4.0.
USF had 12 sports teams post an annual GPA over 3.0. A total of 91 USF student-athletes earned their degree in 2016-17, with that number expected to eclipse 100 after the summer term. USF also posted a record 86 percent Graduation Success Rate when the latest data was announced last November.
