TAMPA, Nov. 14, 2018– University of South Florida head men’s basketball coach Brian Gregory announced on Wednesday that Jamir Chaplin (Norcross, Ga.) has signed a National Letter of Intent on the first day of the early signing period.

A 6-foot-5 guard at Meadowcreek High School, Chaplin is a three-star prospect who chose USF over offers from Georgia Tech, Tulane, Illinois State and Middle Tennessee. As a junior at Meadowcreek High School, Chaplin led his team to a 26-6 overall record and capped the season with a state championship in Georgia’s highest classification. He averaged 16 points, 5.9 rebounds and two steals per game.

Chaplin also played with Stackhouse Elite last summer and averaged 11.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in the Adidas Gauntlet. Stackhouse Elite finished with a 12-6 overall record.

“Getting a player of Jamir Chaplin’s ability and background was very important for our program in year number two,” Gregory said. “He’s coached every day by an NBA player with Stackhouse Elite and that has increased his development. He’s got great versatility and can play multiple spots on the floor and has a tremendous upside. The thing I loved about him the most was how he played every single possession with an all-out intensity. He’s a high-level student that excels in the classroom and will do the same here at USF. He’s a player we know is going to make a huge, huge impact on our program.”

USF returns to the court Thursday at 4:30 p.m. when the Bulls face Ohio in the second round of the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
