on a Monday morning and decided to venture over to the insanity that is thebullspen, just to see what the minions are saying. I don't dare post because I couldn't and wouldn't engage with the lunacy that is that board.
SO, one thread had my head spinning. A fan titled it 'bad coaching' and said he thought it was dumb for Willie Taggart to not go for two after the final drive. The Xtra Pt would put us up by 5, and the two point conversion, if it happened, would have put us up by 6. HUH!!! He said it would have been better to go for two. What script is he reading from? From the book of Lovie Smith who settled for a FG against the Redskins, when we had 4th and goal from the 2 to go up by 6 or to go for it on 4th and 1 on your own thirty nine with less than two minutes to play and up by a TD against the Falcon's? That could have been the most moronic thing I ever read, and I feel dumber for having read it and the thread and found others even agreed. I know what script that was from, 'the I hate CWT so anything he does I'll disagree with it' script.
First, there is absolutely no conceivable reason to go for two and I'll tell you why. First, a blocked extra point, if it happened, would have still had us up by 4 and them needing a TD. RARELY, do blocked extra points happened, and even rarer are they returned for two points. HOWEVER if we fumbled, or threw an INT on the two point conversion, a meaningless two point conversion I might add because if they drive and score a TD they win regardless if we went and converted the two point conversion, but if we had a turnover (which is far more likely of an occurrence then a blocked kick returned) that was returned for a two point conversion then ECU would only be down by three, with a monumental momentum shift, and the ball with over a minute to play to drive for only a FG and the tie. That's why you don't go for two there, and the fact it's a meaningless extra point, either way ECU still had to score a TD in less than 2 minutes to win. Even if they simply stopped our two point conversion that results in a momentum shift to them. You never want the momentum to swing the other way when you have it on your side, particularly if the extra point wasn't going to gain you anything.
I swear to goodness I am thankful we have this board and the intelligent fans, and knowledgeable ones. Even some skeptics, which we've all agreed we were at some points very early in the season, freely admit that we're impressed with our team's development and improvement thus far. It's comforting to not have to read drivel like that one thread. WOW, I am thankful not be drawn to that board.
