USF added 22 student-athletes in December
TAMPA, FLA., FEB. 3, 2021 – USF football head coach Jeff Scott announced the addition of six preferred walk-ons to the Bulls’ 2021 Signing Class on the first day of the Late Signing Period on Wednesday.
USF added 22 student-athletes to the Bulls’ roster in the December early period – including 17 high school recruits and five Division 1 transfers. Fourteen of those new additions joined the Bulls in January and are currently working out with the team.
The February additions included three defensive players, a wide receiver and two kickers, including one legacy Bull.
On the defensive side of the ball, the USF additions include safety Lewai Mitchell (Maitland, Fla./Orangewood Christian), the son of standout USF linebacker Kawika Mitchell who starred for the Bulls from 1999-2002, earning first team FBS All-Independent honors while setting the then program record with 367 career tackles before being selected in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft and winning a Super Bowl (2008) with the New York Giants. Lewai played baseball and football at Orangewood Christian where he played on both sides of the ball in football posting 143 tackles and six interceptions and 1,191 all-purpose yards and 10 touchdowns in his final two seasons.
The Bulls also added linebacker Amer Amer (Windermere, Fla./Windermere HS), who logged 177 tackles and eight sacks in his prep career, and defensive tackle Colby Smith (Neptune Beach, Fla./Fletcher HS).
Wide receiver Zak Sedaros (Viera, Fla./Viera HS) joined the Bulls offense after catching 39 passes for 885 yards and eight touchdowns in his senior campaign.
Two kickers also joined the Bulls roster in John Cannon (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./University HS), a former first team all-state selection, and Will Fowler (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg HS).
