Welcome to The Bulls Basketball Insider, our weekly roundup of USF basketball news, notes and recruiting. Let's get to it:
Recruiting News
Here’s where things stand with a handful of targets.
Clyde Trapp, Jr. -- the Lower Richland (SC) shooting guard has really seen his recruitment take off recently. Last week Trapp picked up offers from VCU and Georgia Tech. South Carolina offered him on Tuesday night, which is his tenth offer. Considering that Trapp attends high school just 20 minutes from the South Carolina campus, this offer is likely a game changer in his recruitment and we're not holding our breath that he'll visit USF.
David Collins -- is on an official visit to Youngstown State this weekend and we would not be surprised to see him commit there. Although he attends First Love Christian Academy in Washington, PA, Collins is a Youngstown native. Also, the more video RTB has seen of Collins, the more we consider him a LM+ player.
Felipe Haase -- things are heating up for the big Chilean. He originally committed to Colorado in April before his recruitment had a chance to really develop, then reopened earlier this month. In addition to the recent USF visit, and offer, Haase has had school visits from Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Missouri, West Virginia, Miami, Indiana and Purdue (that's ACC, B1G, SEC and Big 12 in case you were wondering). We expect his recruitment to continue to grow and to play out until Spring. South Carolina head coach Frank Martin is well connected in South Florida so the Gamecocks could have pole position if they offer.
Simeon Kirkland -- RTB was at The Rock School at Zero-Six-Thirty Thursday to watch the team workout. It was an uneven day for Kirkland. He competed hard but had difficulty finishing in traffic or making jump shots. Also he was not a good pick and roll (P&R) roll man. Often he would set the pick then either just stand there or pop out hoping to get a pass. This did not go over well with The Rock head coach Justin Harden.
To be fair, the 6-foot-8 Kirkland is going through an adjustment period as he transitions from 4A Ocala Trinity Catholic to the rugged and competitive Sunshine Independent Athletic Association (SIAA). He definitely bears monitoring.
Darius Days -- the 6-foot-7 junior was the best player RTB saw at THEworkout hosted by Nike Team Florida. Read more about that HERE.
We like Days, he is skilled, has a great motor and basketball IQ. Despite that he is 6-foot-6 but he is not a natural small forward at the next level. He has been used at power forward both last year at The Rock and for his AAU team. At the next level he is an undersized four-man and his perimeter game needs to continue to improve to play the three. We'll see where things go between Days and the Bulls.
Florida head coach Mike White and Maryland assistant Cliff Warren were at The Rock to watch Days and his 2019 teammate BJ Greenlee who we're high on.
Team News
We have reached the start of the college basketball season. Although games don't start until November, teams can now practice up to 20 hours per week. During the off season, teams are limited to just two hour workouts per week.
