This is the part of the season that separates the men from the boys in college football. The Bulls have been in the mix twice, 2007 and again in 2008 and they didn’t make the cut either year.
The 2007 Bulls team is arguably the most talented Bulls team to date. They shot out of the gates to a 6-0 record with a 26-23 OT win at Auburn, followed by two impressive home wins, 37-10 over UNC and 21-13 over WVU. The Bulls were ranked #2 in the country !!!!
Then the trip to Rutgers where the Greg Schiano coached Knights pulled out a 30-27 win behind 181 yards rushing by Ray Rice and QB Mike Teel’s 2 TD passes. This loss was followed by a 22-15 loss at UCONN and a 38-33 home loss to Cincy. Then the Bulls returned to form and closed the regular season out with impressive wins over Cuse, Louisville and Pitt to end the regular season at 9-3. The Bulls lost the Sun Bowl to Oregon 56-21 as Jonathan Stewart gashed us for 238 yards. We weren’t ready for the spread obviously, plus the Quack Attack had some athletes.
The 2008 Bulls started out 5-0 with impressive wins over good Kansas (37-34) and NC State (41-10). The Bulls came into the Pitt game 5-0 and ranked 10th in the country. Pitt won 26-21 in the Ray Jay. Shady McCoy had a big night. The Bulls came back the following week and beat Cuse 45-13 to have the same 6-1 record as the 2007 Bulls. Then WHAM !!! Back to back road losses to Louisville (24-20) and Cincy (24-10). The following week the Bulls were trounced at home by Rutgers (49-16).
I’ve heard people on this board say we could lose to Navy and Memphis if we don’t get our defense in order. I say this team has just 1 game to think about and it’s Temple. We play them on their home field and they are a very competitive team. They lost to Penn State and Navy by the same score 34-27. I’d say that makes them pretty damn good. They want to pay the Bulls back for last year. This game is HUGE !!!! Forget Navy, Forget Memphis…….the only game is Temple.
Forget the Big 12 and concentrate on the AAC, that’s our conference. Why not win it ?
GO BULLS !!!!!
