Two years ago right before championship weekend things looked good.
We had pounded in an extra TD against Frost and UCF. Gotten to our first 10 win season. And even though we hadn’t made the conference title game we certainly would in 2017 right? Flowers, Mack, MVS, Johnson, Senat, Hector, Love, Nichols, Sanchez, Abraham, etc. Going to be our year and the rest of the AAC was going to be our bitch for the foreseeable future. Then CWT leaves, Mack declares and we roll into 2017 with a new staff with a different mindset. Certainly the team to the East, one year off a winless season, was a few years away.
We lose the game against UCF and watch them seize our year from us. They go on a magical run and finish with their second NY6 bowl and another conference title.
And then 2018 happens and we become almost completely inept on offense in a matter of weeks. And then watch agains as the tinmen go on another magical run and the worst part with a new coaching staff. They made the transition in 2018 that we couldn’t in 2017. And then win another conference title and go to another NY6 game.
We went, in 2 years, from being poised for our own big run and maybe a N6 game or 2 to complete strike out. And watch the tinmen accomplish not one but 2 undefeated seasons. It truly is something. Be mad at someone? Be mad at everyone?
The only bright side is maybe 2 years from now we’re on our long awaited run of championships. Maybe.
