HOOPS Williams, Fletcher, McHone Elevated within South Florida Men’s Basketball Program

TAMPA, Fla. (June 7, 2024) – Head Coach Amir Abdur-Rahim and the University of South Florida men's basketball program announced the promotions of Joi Williams, Ben Fletcher, and Griffin McHone on Friday.

Joi Williams – Chief of Staff/General Manager
Williams, a USF graduate, finished her first season back on campus as the chief of staff. She has been elevated to chief of staff/general manager. Before her return to South Florida, Williams was the assistant athletic director for women's basketball at Mississippi State. She played for the Bulls from 1984-89 and brought over 20 years of head coaching experience in her return to Tampa. Her experience and insights played a key role in the success during the 2023-24 campaign, including a 25-8 record and an American Athletic Conference regular season title.

Ben Fletcher - Associate Head Coach
Fletcher served as an assistant coach during the 2023-24 season, his first at USF, and has been promoted to associate head coach after a stellar first year in Tampa. He was a vital part of the best record in USF men's basketball history with a 25-8 mark and a regular season AAC Championship, the first in program history. Fletcher came to USF after serving as associate head coach under Abdur-Rahim at Kennesaw State during the Owl's historic run in 2022-23.

Griffin McHone – Assistant Coach
After his first year in Tampa serving as the director of player development, McHone has been elevated to an assistant coach. He was a crucial piece in the development of the Bulls' 2023-24 squad that set a program record with 25 wins and claimed the program's first-ever regular season conference championship. McHone followed Abdur-Rahim from Kennesaw State after their historic 2022-23 season.

• Helped guide South Florida to its first regular season conference championship.
• Helped lead the Bulls to a program record 25 wins, the most in program history.
• The 25-8 record was an 11-win improvement from the 2022-23 season, which tied for the seventh-best improvement nationally during the 2023-24 season, and marked just the sixth 20-win season in program history.
• USF earned its first-ever Top 25 ranking in men's basketball during the season, reaching as high as No. 24 in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Polls.
• The Bulls' 16 wins in conference play are the most in program history and USF held the longest win streak in the nation, posting 15 straight victories in conference play to register the program's longest-ever win streak.
• USF reached the NIT second round, the first second-round appearance for the program since 2012.
