HOOPS USF Men’s Basketball Falls to FAU on the Road

BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 2, 2025) – The University of South Florida men’s basketball team dropped a tough one on the road against Florida Atlantic on Sunday. The Bulls (11-11, 4-5) had four players score in double figures but fell to the Owls (12-10, 5-4), 94-72, in the first American Athletic Conference game of February.



CJ Brown tied for the team-high 15 points. He added one steal and one assist. Jamille Reynolds achieved his fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. He recorded a team-high two blocked shots and had two steals. Jayden Reid posted a 12-point performance with four rebounds, a team-high four assists, and one steal. Kasen Jennings rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Bulls with 11 points. He collected one rebound and one blocked shot.



The Owls opened the game by outscoring the Bulls 12-8. Reynolds scored six of the following 12 points for USF, including two dunks. Jimmie Williams accounted for four points. Midway through the first half, South Florida trailed Florida Atlantic, 27-20.



The two sides continued to battle for the remainder of the first half. The Owls took a 46-35 lead into the break. Reynolds had a game-high 11 points, with seven coming at the free-throw line. The Bulls shot 41.4 percent from the field and 30.0 percent from 3-point range. FAU shot 54.8 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from long range.



FAU started the second half with a 7-0 run and took an 18-point lead, 53-35. With 13:29 left in regulation, the Owls extended their lead to 20 points, 65-45. The Bulls were resilient and answered with an 11-0 run, cutting the deficit to nine, 65-56. Reid led the Bulls with six points on two 3-pointers during the run.



Florida Atlantic went on a 12-2 run and extended its lead to 19, 77-58. FAU held USF scoreless for 2:26. The Owls extended their lead to 23 points, 92-69, before they won the game 94-72.



The Bulls forced 11 turnovers and limited their turnovers to single digits with nine. USF finished the game with nine assists, eight steals, and three blocks. South Florida continued to utilize fastbreak points, outscoring Florida Atlantic 15-5. USF held the advantage on the offensive glass with 15 rebounds, while FAU only brought down eight.



Tre Carroll and Matas Vokietaitis tied for a game-high 18 points. Niccolo Moretti scored 17, while Baba Miller had 10. Carroll, Miller, and Kaleb Glenn tied for a team-high seven rebounds. Miller tallied a game-high three blocked shots. Leland Walker had a game-high seven assists.



The Bulls finished the game shooting 32.3 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from 3-point range. The Owls shot 56.1 percent from the field and 43.5 percent from long distance.



Notables

· CJ Brown tied for a team-high 15 points. It was his fifth game in double figures.

· Jamille Reynolds produced his fifth double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. It was his 12th game scoring in double figures and his sixth game with double-digit rebounds.

· Jayden Reid finished with 12 points, his 14th game in double figures.

· Kasen Jennings recorded his ninth game in double figures this season with 11 points.
