I drove up to Orlando Friday night to watch 2A Orlando Christian Prep (OCP) vs. 3A Bishop J. Snyder (Jacksonville) and it was definitely worth the drive.
There were three kids in the game who hold USF offers. 2022 SG Anthony 'AJ' Brown, 2022 SF Ven-Allen Lubin and 2023 PF Jayden Hastings.
Brown had a game high 21 points on 5-of-11 shooting (1-of-3 on 3FG), he made all ten of his FTA, had six rebounds (three OREB) three assists, a steal and a turnover and probably played 30 minutes. He showed improvement since the end of his sophomore season and looks a tad bit taller and longer. USF is in good shape with Brown, the Bulls offered June 15, 2019 and he has been on campus at least six times, but there is a long way to go in his recruitment. Thursday Brown had a Zoom with the entire Temple coaching staff. I expect UF and FSU to offer in early 2021.
When I looked at the stats I was surprised to see Lubin with 10 points 5-of-11 shooting. I just didn't recall him scoring much (which happens when I take pics during games). Lubin was active and he definitely left some points out there by missing on several put-back opportunities. He grabbed eight rebounds (six OREB), had an assist and two turnovers. USF offered Lubin June 15, 2019 and he has been on campus multiple times.
The sophomore Hastings looks more comfortable and confident on the floor than he did last season. Looks like he added ten pounds. He scored just two points, on 1-of-3 shots, had three rebounds (two OREB) and three turnovers. Hastings, like Lubin, also left points out there by missing on his two put-back opportunities. USF offered Hastings in Sept. 2019. He has been on campus at least twice already despite being in the 2023 class.
Bishop Snyder has an intriguing 2022 SG prospect named Trent Walker. His brother Corey Walker, Jr. is a freshman at Tennessee. Similar to his brother, Trent is a capable shooter with range, a good IQ and he is a good on-ball defender. He made 3-of-6 three-pointers and was 2-of-2 at the charity stripe for 11 points. Walker has good size at 6-foot-4. Looks to be between 170 and 175-pounds.
OCP's games are not streamed live nor are they available on Demand. But I did notice a Pixellot Camera in the OCP gym and the OCP head coach told me that their games will soon be on the NFHS Network and college coaches may view them.
This was one of the best played high school basketball games that I have seen, in-person, in at least 10 years. In fact, when the game was over I did something I hadn't done at a HS game this century. I applauded.
Both teams played that well. I counted eight lead changes and I don't recall either team leading by more than 10 points at anytime during the game.
