At this point in the season, it is hard to predict the top team in the AAC. Houston was looking like the team going into the weekend, but Navy changed things with a 46-40 win in rain soaked Annapolis. All I can say about the AAC at this point is there seems to be somewhat of a bell shaped curve. The top 4 consists of Houston, Memphis, Navy and USF. The top team is yet to be decided on the field. The middle 4 consists of UCONN, Temple, Tulsa and UCF. The bottom 4 consists of Cincy, ECU, SMU and Tulane. Every team is in a liquid state at this point until some more games are played.
The luster of USF’s win at Cincy diminished after UCONN dominated the Bearcats 20-9 in East Hartford. This weekend another layer of the grape gets peeled.
Thursday Oct 13: Navy (4-1) (3-0) @ ECU (2-4) (0-2) 7:30 PM ESPN
Friday Oct 14: Memphis (4-1) (1-0) @ Tulane (3-2) (0-1) 7:00 PM ESPNU
Saturday Oct 15:
UCONN (3-3) (1-2) @ USF (5-1) (2-0) 7:00 PM CBSSN
Tulsa (4-1) (3-0) @ Houston (5-1) (2-1) 7:00 PM ESPN2
Temple (3-3) (1-1) @ UCF (3-2) (1-0) 7:30 PM ESPNU
Idle: Cincy, SMU
UCONN wants to play this game in a phone booth and if we oblige them, we lose. UCONN has a big nasty defensive front 7 and an always strong defensive backfield. How our receivers play against the Husky secondary is very important to the win. Our RBs and Q will take a physical pounding. Hope is our team speed will win the day. UCONN will want to ground and pound, so our entire defense has to tackle better. If the D tackles as poorly as they have so far this year, our offense may have a long time on the sideline watching a very boring UCONN ground game. The best way for USF is to jump on UCONN early and often and make them play catch up. Make the Husky’s passing game win it for them.
The USF v UCONN game is my only concern, as far as the rest of the games go, let the chips fall where they may. I expect another smash mouth game with the Huskies and they figure they owe us a whipping, since we have won the last 4. Scary game, but our guys are focused.
I will add one thing though. I would hate to be Tulsa on Saturday !!!!
GO BULLS !!!!!
