I don't even know how to do statistical comparisons in this game...USF's defense is top 40, UCF's is 112th. Their offense is horrible averaging 80 yards rushing a game, and is the third worst in passing, and they have the second worst offense in the country...our offense is ranked 47th and climbing. They're one of the worst in the nation in turnover margin, in surrendering sacks, and TFL...all specialties of our defense. We have a top 35 scoring offense, and they have the second worst in the nation averaging 14.7ppg, and their scoring defense is around 97. By comparison of stats we should dominate this game....and I mean force turnovers, negative plays, get many big splash plays, easily hold their rushing game to under 140 yards total rushing, and probably win by 30-50pts....but I get the rivalry thing too.
UCF will now probably be without Holman and Peyton...both who seemed to have sustained injuries bad enough to keep them out of the second half debacle that was ECU. To make matters worse for UCF is they hired their AD a few days ago, and you can bet your ass he'll be hot on the trail to hire a head football coach by December 1, so the current staff probably ALL KNOW their days are literally numbers. How passionate do you think their coaches will be about development, and how much energy will they put into a rivalry game when they could be gone hours after that game...particularly if news breaks early next week about potential candidates...you can bet Barrett will not be among those names.
The tangible, and intangible aspects all point to USF. I hate the Thanksgiving Day aspect because it adds another stinky intangible wrinkle that doesn't work to either advantage....just a strange day for the game so potentially strange things can happen.
Providing we protect that ball, play disciplined and as fast and aggressive as we've played the past 6 weeks we should win this handedly, and hopefully be playing in the conference championship game!
