The real season starts now less than one month till the big signing day.
Orlando Antigua has alot to prove after losing 5 or 6 games to some of the worst teams in basketball, games they should have won.
As one who has watched almost every game since the Bobby Pascal Fred Lewis, Vince Hyatt, Jesse salters, Sharp, Hugh days this was the single worst coached team in USF history except for the Robert McCollum 05 team. Blowouts, no defense especially on permiter, lack of heart and hustle outside of Zeigler on returning players, standing around on perimiter, few picks, with only half court sets a rotating of baseline from Morillo, Holston, and Mercurius. Almost all Corey Allen one on one. Guerrero is the worst big lateral defender ive seen in some time, uses just his length.Morillo might be the single worst perimiter defender for USF in last 5 years, high volume and poor shot selection just looking for his.Never really saw this pressure defense, full court press and breakneck bbreak he personally told me they would run this year. Only one returning player dramatically improved this year, that was Troy Holston. Zeigler did improve too but that was coming from lots of pt early in year with little production. He had his flashes but only against inferior teams here and there. But I do love his heart.
Statistically in 2 years I believe only that team and the 1st Greenberg team was worst.
Good kids that were pressed into duty, Ruben Guerrero, Bo Zeigler, and Nehemias Morillo are not starting caliber players at this level and they won't be next year either for years after.
Guerrero is an 8 and 6 ceiling guy, Zeigler about the same, and Morillo a 4 and 15 type shooter.
Only Starting caliber real players coming back in my mind are Troy Holston and Roddy Peters. I think Dinero Mercurius is the only other real player as he has the defensive mentality to be a stopper and is fearless on the break.Hes got a great shot. He can be a viable 6th man 1st guard off the bench next year, but he's not a starter.
Antiguas got to recruit at least 3 new starters for next year. A new center, a physical power forward with a post game, and a Small Forward to team with Holston and Peters. Mcmurray and Santos are Lowley rated players
Sounds like John Carlos Reyes will be the start in center that signs, Ty Outlaw the small forward to team with Peters and Holston, and who else? It sounds like they've backed off shawn Smith who is a similar lesser player to Holston. Better pray Tulio Silva gets eligible big if, they need him to be the starting power forward next year. And really no one else right now who are even reported targets.
Where all the top 150 players Antigua was supposed to be recruiting and bringing in for his second class? He's only got one remote top 150 player IN tulio Da Silva, and I don't even think he's ranked by rivals despite being 2nd team Siam elite all state.
Wojo, Williams, and Pearl are killing it bringing in top players in the dregs of college basketball at auburn and Virginia tech.
I'm really worried for next year unless he can close with a stellar class here the next month, because losing the heart of the team Chris Perry, Anthony Collins, and Corey Allen we have little coming back.
