This brilliant thing that USF is doing right now with celebrating the USF football program being 20 years old. They are reflecting back on 20 moments, one per year, that helped define our program. They may not necessarily be BIGGEST moments in USF history, or positive things, but they are big moments that set the trajectory of this program. And who better to tell the stories as they remember it but Jim Louk himself.
For me personally, I haven't been here for all 20 years of the program. I arrived late but I have enjoyed the party thus far. So hearing stories being told from Jim Louk who was there and was covering at the time, is pretty cool. Maybe some of the veterans can chip in their 2 cents if they were also there, experiencing these moments that Jim will be talking about.
The first one was posted a few days ago. They didn't start off with the first season. No, they started off by talking about the scrimmage open to the public that the team had the year before their first season of games. You can find that here. I found it to be a cool story.
On a sad, side note though...it was sad to hear about on this day, we had a little less than 5,000 in attendance. Sure, it was a historic time for the program, our first football team and everyone wanted to show up and be a part of it but it's a bit sad that 20 years later, during a spring game, we had an announced crowd of 4,418 at the game. Probably less than the scrimmage 20 years ago. They were both held on campus so there shouldn't have been an excuse. You would figured we would have grown enough to have a better turn out...but we didn't. We didn't even have the excuse that we sucked that year so the excitement wasn't there and therefore people didn't show up. Nope, we just finished one of the best years in USF history. A season where we had the most conference wins ever and smashed several program records whether it be rushing records, receiving records, season records, career records...all kinds of records. And yet, we can't even put 5,000 at the spring game...on campus. Depressing.
