Anyone here a former OC or does everyone here just fancy themselves an OC that was born into the wrong profession like myself? I've never coached football at any level, nor do I watch our games more than once.
That said, my take on the offensive play calling strategy is that CWT sees the flaws in all of our offensive units, especially qb, and plays it conservatively to set up the occasional big play. Makes sense that we can't take tons of shots downfield considering our OL struggles to sustain blocks, our qb is generally inaccurate and our receivers drop balls. And why would we want him to take the ball out of Mack and Johnson's hands to chuck it?
The FSU game was a perfect offensive gameplan, IMO. Lots of conservative calls early, which set up some shots downfield that our players just failed to execute. All the coaches can do is put the players in a position to succeed. Johnson is an example of a kid that's taken full advantage of every opportunity. Bronson, Adams and Flowers have not.
