All of us watch college football and we are amazed at the things individual players are able to do. A lot of players are all so gifted that I am guilty of beating the drum for them. This year I am going to be concentrating on how the team plays rather than stand out plays by individuals.
The interview with Kenan Reynolds after the Navy 44-28 Victory over Pitt is what changed my mind. Reynolds is a very humble man and a smart man as well. He said "I have been fortunate enough to play with some team mates who do their jobs very well. I could never have achieved what I achieved without them." This is a man who is excellent at what he does and he has team mates that are excellent at what they do.
I saw the Navy Teams with both Heisman winners RB Joe Bellino and QB Roger Starbauch and this 2015/16 Navy team is the best Navy team I have ever seen. Their smaller O-line was opening huge holes against a much bigger Pitt D-line. Navy's defense played an excellent game against a much bigger Pitt O-line.
Navy will not beat themselves, the opponent has to beat them. They are losing 32 seniors off this team, but they have the system fully entrenched. They may not be as strong next year as they were this year, but I still think they will be a tough out.
I wish USF would pattern their dedication to perfection after Navy. Precision blocking and tackling. Low penalties and turn overs. It makes you feel safe to know that guys like that are protecting us. Navy practices team work off the football field as well whether it's classwork, short order drills or military maneuvers, so football is just another way of enforcing what they do daily in other things non football. This is a real advantage for Navy on the football field.
I would get as much film as I could on Navy and study it. Look at how disciplined they are. Note how they control their temper rather than have it control them. You lay a cheap shot on one of them and you will wind up getting paid back, but within the rules and before the last sound of the whistle.
With the athletes we have, if we can get them to play like a team with discipline, we can win the AAC title next year.
GO BULLS !!!!!
