Given the raging debate regarding CBG, I thought I'd check in on the transfers from last year.

D-1:

David Collins, Clemson (10-5): 29.3 MPG, 11.3 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 2.1 APG, 52.6% FG, 42.9% 3PT, 55.7% FT. Role is off the ball more, which led to better efficiency, more boards, fewer assists, and yet somehow worse at the line.

Alexis Yetna, Seton Hall (11-3): 25.2 MPG, 9.8 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 42.4 FG%, 25% 3PT, 81% FT. Much like DC, basically the same as here, but his floor shooting is down.

Xavier Castaneda, Akron (8-4): 27.6 MPG, 11.3 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 2.3 APG, 36.5% FG, 37.9% 3PT, 89% FT. Slightly bigger role, efficiency is up and he's a really good 3PT/FT shooter now.

Michael Durr, Indiana (12-3): 7.3 MPG, 2.2 PPG, 1.3 RPG, 81.3% FT. Bench role, FT improvement appears legit.

Justin Brown, UAB (13-4): 11.9 MPG, 3.5 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 34.6% FG, 31.8 % 3PT, 66.7% FT. Significantly smaller role in allegedly smaller conference, and he's not playing well. I thought he'd be good in a role where he could focus on his jump shooting.

Rashun Williams, Radford (5-9): 25.6 MPG, 8.9 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 40.7% FG, 34.3% 3PT, 65% FT. Bigger role and better rate stats in a smaller conference, still nothing great.

Madut Akec, Detroit (5-7): 33.5 MPG, 15.3 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 50% FG, 35.1% 3PT, 82.2% FT. The new version of Amu Saaka, who does basically nothing in two years at USF and then suddenly dominates in a smaller league. Also, Mike Brown is the coach at Detroit.

Prince Oduro, Detroit (5-7): 21.1 MPG, 5.1 PPG, 4 RPG, 46.2% FG, 41.7% FT. Bigger role, but exactly who we thought he was.

D-II:
Luke Anderson, Florida Southern (6-9): 19.4 MPG, 4.1 PPG, 3.1 RPG. This guy was a P5 recruit? He's mediocre on a mediocre D-II team.

Takeaways:

1) This roster plainly would have been better than the current group, especially if Akec's breakout translated at all to higher competition;
2) No one is the leading man on a winning team, and we already knew that this wasn't a great team together;
3) I knew Prince Oduro was a reach and was concerned about Anderson's slight frame, but I had no idea Anderson would prove to be such a miss. I am surprised that Justin Brown isn't shooting more efficiently in a smaller role;
4) Even if the exodus had not occured, the writing likely would still be on the wall for CBG because this isn't even an NIT team and he would certainly continue to miscast David Collins as a go-to scorer;
5) If you sub out Oduro, Anderson, and Wlliams and bring in Green, McCreary, and Boggs or Hines, I still don't see an NIT team.
