I've got 4 cups of in me. It's not even 10:30 AM yet as of writing this. I'm jacked up. I saw SMU play last night. Plus I won some money last night off the NFL game. I'm fired up.
Can we talk about this? SMU looks SO much improved from last year. Are they a good team? Absolutely not but in just 5 games, Chad Morris has this team looking like something else. The offense is moving the ball and putting up points. Not enough to win games but they couldn't have done this last year. Their offensive line is the worst in college football as far as pass protection goes but you would think that just has to get better.
Flip side, USF looks awful. We are conservative, the play calling is constipated, we don't let our players play on offense, etc etc. Defense plays great but that's because Willie doesn't have his hands on it. That's all Tom Allen. Willie's play calling if it were for defense would be a lot like Bresnahan. It's sad because SMU hasn't had the recruiting that we have had for 3 YEARS! And you can't use the excuse that, well, "we've changed systems so many times, it's like starting new all over again each year." We can't use that excuse when you look over to SMU and see what they are doing this year. 5 games guys...5 games. How on earth can we be three years in, with tons of talent, and not look anything close to what SMU has? Pathetic.
When I have watched SMU this year, I get the feeling like what I have with our own men's basketball team. That sense that they aren't good right now but you can see what they are doing and the unbelievable improvement that is there already. There is a future and that's something I can't say about USF football. After last year, I was over it. There was nothing really that showed me improvement. The kind of improvement that shows you that we have momentum and that good things were coming. If you thought that way, you were just fooling yourself. 2+2 did not equal 4 in this equation. This is why I'm over Willie and why I've been done with him. He's recruited great and I thank him for that and I also thank him for trying because I believe that he did, to an extent, but I do not believe that he has what it takes to take us anywhere higher.
Everyone around us has QBs too. SMU has one. Houston doesn't even have one. They have a WR playing QB and they are still doing what they are doing. Oh yeah, and guess what? Houston has a new head coach too and looks WORLDS better than we do. First year guys. First year. ECU had one last year. Cincy has two. Memphis has a great one. Even Marshall last year had one. What do we have? Nothing as far as we are concerned because Taggart won't let Q play to see what he really has and we have already seen Bench. And Q might not be all that great anyway but we will probably never find out as long as Taggart is head coach.
I could go on and on and on and on but I won't. I feel like this is a good starting point. Who knows, I might come back and post/vent some more if I feel like it.
