Great article today in the times. It mentions the massive swing in high level Texas high school recruits going to the SEC (not just Texas A&M) since A&M joined the SEC. It's all occurred since Texas A&M's move to the SEC. Texas A&M was not a good program for years until just the last 5 years or so. They were mediocre for years. It's not like the SEC added the top of the Big 12 when they grabbed Texas A&M. The exposure the whole SEC now gets in Texas from adding Texas A&M has paid huge dividends in recruiting in Texas and significantly weakened Texas recruiting for the Big 12 which is weakening the whole talent pool of the Big 12. The Big 12 relies so heavily for Texas talent because the rest of the conference generates very little talent. How many top level kids come out of the state of Kansas every year or Iowa or West Virginia? The Big 12 made an enormous mistake not adding USF and UCF in the expansion. The massive enrollment of both schools and massive recruiting markets and media markets they cover would have given the entire Big 12 new recruiting territory and exposure which would have helped to offset the blow from the SEC Texas poaching and essentially shot a response back at the SEC by planting a flag in SEC territory. We all know the Big 12 is now a dead conference walking but potentially could have been saved long term by seeing the big picture. The typical dysfunctional think today Big 12 leadership at the top blew it again which will mean the ultimate destruction of the Big 12.
