FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE TELEVISED ON ABC
Fourth straight year that ABC will carry The American Football Championship
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The 2018 American Athletic Conference Football Championship will be televised nationally on ABC. The Championship will be played Saturday, Dec. 1, at 3:30 p.m. ET at the home site of one of the conference’s divisional winners.
This year will mark the fourth consecutive season in which The American Football Championship is televised on ABC. The game has drawn an average viewing audience of nearly 3 million viewers in in its first three years.
The American Athletic Conference has two unbeaten teams through eight weeks of the season as UCF and USF are both 7-0. The American is the only conference in FBS football with more than one unbeaten team. The conference also has two one-loss teams as Houston and Cincinnati stand at 6-1 entering this week’s games.
The American’s East Division standings show UCF and Temple in first place with 4-0 conference records, while USF is 3-0 and Cincinnati is 2-1. Houston is 3-0 in conference games to lead the West Division, while SMU is a game behind at 2-1.
The site of the American Athletic Conference Football Champion will be the divisional champion with the better winning percentage in conference games. If the divisional champions have the same conference record, then the conference’s tiebreaking procedure will be used.
